Artist Statement
Since the late 1990s, my work has primarily involved a celebration of beauty in nature . In both my landscape and animal work, I use a variety of styles to express the simultaneous peace and excitement one attains when immersing themselves in nature. Whether through Realism or storybook expression, I hope these works bring happiness and child-like wonder to the viewer.
My 3D paintings are inspired by the illusions I can see in the natural shape, shadows and contours of each unique piece.
My figurative work is often centered on both love and love lost. These themes are often expressed in portraiture, or abstraction, depending upon how deep rooted or deeply buried the emotion currently is within my own heart. As a self-taught artist, I'm learning that painting from such emotion forces me to reconnect with myself, which in turn, gives me both the confidence and desire to stretch and grow as an artist. With each new work, I strive to express my vision with the wedding of "[impressive]...artistry, imagination and conceptual originality". (Adrian Zoot, "EBSQ Suburbia Art Show" Jan. 2004).
